Tommy starts out as an anti - hero. Injured in the line of duty, he is barely mobile and has cut himself off from everyone. At 29, he seems to have given up on life.Paige is a strong, single mom with a kind heart and immense love for her teenage son.
Seeing Tommy having to deal with two people barging into his life is worth a read. Watching him come alive is even better. Paine and Tommy make a great couple with none of the TSTL or I'm unworthy antics that are such a turnoff in romance novels.
"He was a midway ride, exhilarating as hell, but he took you nowhere. He'd thrill you, steal your breath away, then spit you out at the end of the ride, right back where you'd started from. And there you'd be, wondering if you had enough emotional capital to stand in line for another ticket."
I thought the clues used in the story were odd, but it didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the story. Readers should know that this is much more romance than suspense.
Note that this is Book 3 in the series and I would recommend that you start with Suzannah's story.

Protecting Paige Serve and Protect Series Book 3 edition by Norah Wilson Romance eBooks Reviews
OMG, another awesome story by an obviously very talented writer. I read Saving Grace before this and thought that was pretty awesome. Then I read Protecting Paige and was blown away by the intensity of the story. I was so drawn onto the lives of Paige, her son Dillon, and Tommy, the injured officer who lives next door. I was so caught up in the story before I realized I had gasped out loud, I had tears at one point, then was smiling like an idiot at another point. It catches your attention from the beginning and holds it like a vice all the way through to the end. A MUST read for the romance/suspense book lover.
I'm saddened that this is the last book available in the Serve and Protect series by the very talented Norah Wilson. Every single one has been gripping, can't-put-it-down good. I can't say enough about these books, and if you've never read one, start NOW. They are fantastic, sexy, compelling, heart touching, and more. With characters that grab your heart and hang on, stories that are full of suspense and mystery, and romance that touches your soul, these novels are the best of the best. Protecting Paige was another shining example of why you just can't get enough of Serve and Protect.
Luckily I gave a second chance to Wilson's books after being disappointed by "Saving Grace" and bought this other one. This book is totally a keeper. The flippant style and the wittiness of the characters immediately won my interest. I particularly liked Tommy's character, for once in a while he's not the almighty, granitic cop, but an insecure man, wounded in the body and in the spirit. His self-loathing, reclusive personality is counter-balanced by Paige's optimistic and warm nature. Finally, a woman who takes the command in the developing relationship and fights to discover the real man behind the mask. The mystery is also very well plotted and all the action is narrated in a believable way.
I really liked this story. It was a bit of a different book for me. Yes, the H was still alpha and strong- but he's recovering from an injury. He's not perfect. And our h- she's a bit older with a teenage son. I liked that. This book was great. She was strong, but was still vulnerable. I liked the mom moments, and there is a dog- let's not forget that! This is a great romance. Loved it.
Protecting Paige is a good "adult" romance novel, not meaning erotica and definitely not "new adult". There is romance, even hot romantic scenes. But the biggest plus I can give this book amongst the slew of new romance novels out there is that these are real adults (characters) acting like adults. Even when they may flounder you shake your head but you are not "yelling" at the page because of their immaturity.
I was looking forward to Paige and Tommy's story from the preview alone. I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the characters and felt encouraged rooting for each of them because they were inherently good people who deserved to find their HEA. As a reader you feel the need to keep reading to find out how they get it.
The story had good suspense with a believable, relevant premise. I hope the series continues and we will see more of all of the characters interacting.
I love how Paige literally blows into Tommy's life at a time he needed it. Both characters are likeable, although Tommy is a bit gruff in the beginning, but for a good reason. It was fun reading about Paige inserting herself in Tommy's life, whether he wanted her there or not. I had read this book first, rather than in order by mistake. This book has action, suspense, and romance with a HEA. Have enjoyed many Norah Wilson's books. Looking forward to reading more.
That's the challenge that lay before our injured and disabled hero as he contemplated his future, fighting constant pain, convinced he had nothing ahead of him except living with the help of a narcotic haze, and fearing that his cop buddies saw him as half a person and an object of their collective pity. Enter his neighbor, a slightly older women who saw past his rage and self-destructive retreat into himself and together with her teen son and a little injured dog, began the process of bringing him back to life. It is a story about the journey of discovery both these individuals made which brought them to a new plateau of understanding about themselves and each other. This novel has been around for several years but that doesn't detract from the fact that it is one fine piece of writing from a writer who has demonstrated already that she knows how to put together a very good read and has continued to give her fans more of the same.
